# Ownership and transfers

> What moves with a Squeek when it changes hands, who can act on it, and what to check before a trade.

Web version: https://docs.squeekchain.com/squeeks/ownership/

## TL;DR

- A Squeek's level, power, cooldown and unclaimed rewards move with it.
- Only the current owner can claim or merge.

## What goes to the new owner?

Everything recorded on the Squeek: its level, power, any scheduled power change, cooldown, and unclaimed rewards, including rewards earned before the sale. Claim first if you want to keep them. SQK already claimed stays in the seller's wallet.

## What does an approval allow?

| Action | Who can do it |
| --- | --- |
| Transfer | The owner or an approved operator |
| Claim | The current owner |
| Merge | The current owner of both Squeeks |

An approved marketplace can transfer a Squeek, and the new owner then controls its rewards. If a smart contract owns the Squeek, that contract makes the claim or merge call.

## Before you buy or sell a Squeek

Check its unclaimed rewards, scheduled power and cooldown just before the trade: the seller can still claim until the transfer executes. Transfers are standard ERC-721 transactions and work even while minting is paused.
