# Getting a Squeek

> How to mint a new Squeek or buy an existing one, and what limits apply.

## Mint or buy?

Minting creates a Level 1 Squeek. Its power starts earning in the next round, and its merge cooldown starts right away.

Buying an existing Squeek gets you its level, power, cooldown and unclaimed rewards as they stand. [Ownership and transfers](https://docs.squeekchain.com/squeeks/ownership.md) explains what to check first.

## Before you mint

Minting opens in phases, with limits per transaction and per address.

## How many Squeeks are there?

There's a fixed supply of 9,999 Squeeks. 8,888 will be available in the upcoming mint, with 1,111 reserved for Hamster-Owned Liquidity.
